Week 10

1. In what ways are you designing your media product to use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I’m designing my media product to develop the forms of real media products because through my research I have found out that all rap music magazine aren’t any different from each other they just use different fonts and different colour schemes. But through my magazine I’m going to develop these forms and make it better through colour schemes I decide to use and what features I will use when designing the front cover. Also in some ways I will challenge the forms of real media products because normally rap magazines are aimed at a wide audience to men and women but my magazine will be more for the male audience.
One of the magazines that helped me develop the forms to design my own magazine.

 2. How are you designing your media product to represent particular social groups?
I’m designing my music magazine to stand out to a specific audience who enjoy listening to rap music but my magazine can also appeal to anyone who’s interested in listening to a new genre.  By the picture below of my unfinished front cover you can see straight away that I’m appealing to a ‘Rap’ audience because of the stance of the artist. Also my media product will only represent one social group which is male and this is the media theory of Butler, J (1990-1999) social construct that being male/female is biological & being masculine/feminine is sociological and my media product is for masculine males.

5. How are you attracting/addressing your audience?
I will attract my target audience by using pictures, features and articles that I’m including in my magazine. In the magazine I will use features that are based around ‘Rap’ to attract my target audience because that’s what appeals to them. Also the articles I include will attract the readers because it’s going to be on artists that are familiar to them and this would attract them so they can know more. Also by watching a video of Meek Mill & Rick Ross video I’ve taken from the video what my target audience would interested in and what to include in my magazine from the song.

Week 7

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Unlike real media magazine’s like ‘XXL & Vibe’ my front cover will challenge how they layout their headings and the type of images they use to get across to their target audience. My main photograph that will be used on the front cover will take up the whole page so the artist in the image stands out to the audience this challenge’s real media products because they normally use two or more artist on their cover. Also my colour scheme will challenge the forms of real media products because normally plain colours are used but my magazine will not be plain.
My contents page will develop the real media products as I’ve researched other rap magazines like ‘XXL’ and looking at their contents page I’ve took some ideas to use for my own magazine.
I've took this XXL contents page into consideration to help me with some ideas for my own contents page.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My music magazine represents a particular social group of males who enjoy listening to Rap music and you will be able to tell who my magazine represents through my front cover I design which will have a Rap artist on the cover and the features on the front will represent what Rap is all about and represent what the magazine is about also.
The contents page which will have the contents of what I am including in my magazine like ‘Artist, albums ect’ will also represent the particular social groups I am aiming my music magazine.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My ‘Rap’ magazine may be distributed through rap websites that are advertising magazines for the fans of rap that want to know the latest information or for anyone who wants to learn about the rap culture and what’s involved in the rap industry and the magazine can be distributed through its own website (www.itsawrap.co.uk). Websites like ‘WSHH’ (World Star Hip-hop) would distribute the product because it would relate to what they are including on their website.
My product could also be distributed in WHSmith because like ‘XXL & the Source’ which are other rap magazines they are distributed through the store because there’s a nationwide audience so the target audience can purchase the magazine from the store if they don’t know any other institutions that distribute the product.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my music magazine would be people between the ages of 18-32 who enjoy listening to rap music and have a passion for that type of music. My magazine would be mostly for men because they are more likely to read the magazine unlike women who may want to read a ‘Pop’ or ‘RNB’ magazine. My magazine would be aimed at the lower/middle class like ‘D1/C2’ and also students who are interested in rap music.

Week 6

InIn what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My contents page is spread across the page with irregular text. The heading ‘Contents’ is turned at a 900 angle and ‘Features’ is set at an angle. The list is set out down the page with photos around the texts. This challenges the conventions of other college magazines because everything is normally ordered out on the page and the use of images and fonts makes the contents page more modern and attractive to its target audience.

2.How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My contents page doesn’t represent any social groups. It includes all college students who are interested in what’s happening in their college and all the news. My magazine contents page includes all the articles like ‘sports, fashion, events, revision guide & ect’. This includes every member of the college not any particular social group.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The college library would distribute my media product also it could be place at the front desk of the reception and the school website. This is because it’s a college magazine so there’s nowhere else it can be distributed and it’s better that it’s distributed in the college because its free also college students have quicker access to the magazine and this will help them keep up to date with everything that’s happening in college.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The target audience for my magazine our any students who are in full time college education between the age of 16-18. This is because the magazine is based on what’s happening within the college and all the latest news on exams or anything new that’s going to happen.

Week 5

1.      In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? The background of colour of my front cover magazine is a picture of myself this is very much like other college magazine who base their whole magazine on the students. i challenged the forms of real media product magazine by having a main picture of myself being a student which I done so it can stand out to other students. I used a colour scheme of black & pink and a bit of yellow so it sticks in the students head because it's noticeable. Also I used bold text which stands out unlike the real media products they normally go for fancy text and small fonts to fit it more pictures on their front cover.
I took Inspiration from this front cover magazine.

 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? My college magazine applies to all the students that are in full time education from the age of sixteen to eighteen. It doesn't represent any social groups but all students who are interested in all the latest school news and all the students who want to know what's new in the SFX College.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? My school magazine may be distributed in the school LRC (Library). My magazine could also be uploaded online so students can get hold of it when they are at home. This is because it’s a school magazine for the students so it has to be established around the school so they can be kept up to date with all the latest news.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product? The audience for my school magazine would be both female and male students who are currently in college between the ages of sixteen and eighteen years old and who are interested in the latest news about SFX College. An example of one of my audience member’s. A young man called ‘Kareem’ he enjoys doing athletics and enjoys partying so my magazine would be perfect for him as he loves sports and social events and parts of my magazine are based on that.
