Week 7

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Unlike real media magazine’s like ‘XXL & Vibe’ my front cover will challenge how they layout their headings and the type of images they use to get across to their target audience. My main photograph that will be used on the front cover will take up the whole page so the artist in the image stands out to the audience this challenge’s real media products because they normally use two or more artist on their cover. Also my colour scheme will challenge the forms of real media products because normally plain colours are used but my magazine will not be plain.
My contents page will develop the real media products as I’ve researched other rap magazines like ‘XXL’ and looking at their contents page I’ve took some ideas to use for my own magazine.
I've took this XXL contents page into consideration to help me with some ideas for my own contents page.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My music magazine represents a particular social group of males who enjoy listening to Rap music and you will be able to tell who my magazine represents through my front cover I design which will have a Rap artist on the cover and the features on the front will represent what Rap is all about and represent what the magazine is about also.
The contents page which will have the contents of what I am including in my magazine like ‘Artist, albums ect’ will also represent the particular social groups I am aiming my music magazine.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My ‘Rap’ magazine may be distributed through rap websites that are advertising magazines for the fans of rap that want to know the latest information or for anyone who wants to learn about the rap culture and what’s involved in the rap industry and the magazine can be distributed through its own website (www.itsawrap.co.uk). Websites like ‘WSHH’ (World Star Hip-hop) would distribute the product because it would relate to what they are including on their website.
My product could also be distributed in WHSmith because like ‘XXL & the Source’ which are other rap magazines they are distributed through the store because there’s a nationwide audience so the target audience can purchase the magazine from the store if they don’t know any other institutions that distribute the product.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my music magazine would be people between the ages of 18-32 who enjoy listening to rap music and have a passion for that type of music. My magazine would be mostly for men because they are more likely to read the magazine unlike women who may want to read a ‘Pop’ or ‘RNB’ magazine. My magazine would be aimed at the lower/middle class like ‘D1/C2’ and also students who are interested in rap music.
